The first thing you'll see upon launching SpaceEngine is the Main Menu. From here you can access all of SpaceEngine's tools and edit all of its settings.
The main page of the menu contains four buttons at launch: Planetarium, Editor, Settings, and Exit (a fifth button, Back, is also present when opening the menu from within the program).
Planetarium will load universe and allow you to begin exploring.
Editor will allow you to select between several different edit and export functions. All are unavailable until certain requirements are met in the Planetarium:
Edit planet: Opens the planet editor interface in the planetarium. Requires that a planet or star be selected. See the planet editor section of the manual to learn about using the editor.
Export planet: Opens the planet texture export dialog. Requires that a planet or star be selected. See the export planet section of the manual to learn more about exporting planet textures.
Export system: Allows you to export the catalog script for the entire system. Requires that any object in a star system be selected. Allows you to specify the file's extension (e.g. .txt instead of .sc) and file path relative to the SpaceEngine root directory, in addition to its name. If unsure, leave the path and extension unchanged and edit only the file's name. See the section on adding objects to SpaceEngine to learn about the contents of the exported catalog file.
Export skybox: Allows you to export a set of cube map projection images covering the entire environment visible from the camera's current location. Can be used at any time after the Planetarium has been loaded.
Settings contains buttons accessing each of the various settings menus:
Player: Allows you to set your player name (nickname), change the interface language and interface skin, switch between different units of measure for distance and temperature, and set the screenshot file format.
