Also, why do planets orbiting large, blue main-sequence stars, or small red dwarfs or brown dwarfs have either a horrifying blue tinge or red tinge?

This is due to white balance, or rather the lack of it.

The human eye readily adapts to changes in the spectrum of light illuminating a scene, trying to achieve a white balanced image. But a camera sensor may or may not do this automatically. If you take a photograph of a scene lit by direct sunlight (sunlight is about 5500K "color temperature") with the camera set to daylight white balance, then you'll get a nice, natural-looking image. If you use the same setting for a scene illuminated by incandescent light (~3000K), you'll notice it is significantly redder. Similarly, a shaded scene is much bluer.

This is exactly what SE's rendering system is doing. It is what you would see through a camera with a static white balance set to something like our Sun's color temperature. So planets orbiting different spectral classes of stars will be appear tinged accordingly. If something like "auto white-balance" is ever implemented in SE then this effect will be reduced and perhaps look more natural.

In SE, white is white, meaning that the only light that will look truly white is light from something like an F4 star, which has a blackbody spectrum yielding an RGB color value of roughly 1 1 1. If you look, you'll see that planets/objects lit by Sol are somewhat redder than they should be. A white balance feature or change in how these things are rendered would be a nice addition.

It would be nice to be able to measure distances from one selected point to another on almost any scale. Like the distance from one end of a crater to another.

Would this basically be an imitation of sorts of the human eye then?

It would be great if it were possible to limit SpaceEngine to only the known universe i.e. no procedurally generated content - only the "known" universe. Surely that would be easy enough? Just a button that switches between known and procedural? I personally find it much more enthralling to explore the actual universe, not the simulated part.

Press F4, and this window opens. There you can disable all procedural objects.

There is a button to turn off procedural systems in the shown objects menu.

Is there a reason that at least half of the planets I've seen take 11 hours to rotate?

Say, I have a great suggestion: How about asteroseismology - like waves travelling across the surface of the star?

Yes yes yes yes
This could also be helpful with magnetar bursts because this is what causes those

Is it possible to limit the automatic increase of galaxies visibility?
When I have installed the 'SDSSGalaxyCatalog_GZ_1_1' addon, it is me too bright!

If not, would it be possible to build in such a function?

Would it be possible to add a "flyby calculator" for spaceship orbits like in KSP?

Just to calculate the nearest approach to the target by assuming a 2-body orbit around the current influence body, and will be really useful for non-warp travel.

Suggestion: Tooltips showing currently set keyboard shortcut for each button on the visual interface. Will be much faster to learn or remind of what any particular keybind is by just hovering over its button, when you don't want to sift through the controls window looking for it.

This has been suggested before, and I've actually looked into implementing it, but it's not as simple as it sounds from a coding standpoint.
