I've been going through a small section of one galaxy looking for habitable worlds, cataloging those that I find to build a fictitious sci-fi universe for kicks. But it's become hard to differentiate new systems from those that I've already explored and mapped out.
I realize that system/planetary naming will be coming soon, but if there could be a way of marking individual systems in the map view with specific colors assigned to different, player assigned designations (red for uninhabitable, blue for colonized, etc), it would make the process of interstellar cataloging much more enjoyable. Or beyond that, different colors could denote systems belonging to different factions in a player-built sci-fi universe.
If that's already been suggested or planned in the features, I apologize. Love this game and what's being done with it, doesn't get nearly enough attention.
In the next patch (or maybe SpaceEngineer will release it as a whole new version), we will be able to name and describe planets and other objects (http://www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/a-new-world-32x32/), so it's a step in the direction you're talking about.
Still, I like the idea of tagging them, and they could double (or at least connect to the same system) as the locations.
I have plans to draw small color circles or rectangles around visited and bookmarked stars and planets in the map, but had no time to implement it before the 0.96 release. This will be implemented in the next release.
