I'm amazed by it. It uses procedural generation for completely realistic looking mountains anywhere, and it's physically active (you can drive vehicles on it with near perfect collisions).
You can drive off mount everest (I've done it 10 times now.)
Imagine if this was enabled on space engine. Now that is something I could play for years with out stopping.
I've been following the development of this project with much interest for a long while now. It's coming along just beautifully.
I wonder if the developer, Cameni, can build upon his Earth procedurally when it's finished? Seems to me if you've got one planetary body finitely crafted to near perfection, can it be possible to craft many other alien planets from the same planet too? Maybe its just a question of tweaking parameters. Perhaps later, Cameni could build solar systems, galaxies, to finally an infinite universe.
Here's an engine being built from the bottom-up (finite to a possible infinite), whereas, loosely speaking, Infinity and SpaceEngine appears to be developed with a 'top-down' approach in mind (infinite to finite).

I didn't know you can play with it ! The last time I visited the site (about 4 months ago maybe) there was no playable beta/demo as far as I can recall .
Outerra is not a procedural generated planet. It uses NASA's 90m SRTM data (landscape data with 90 meters resolution), and some noise functions to generate details. In SE I will use such a technique too for Earth, Mars and other real planets. I'm surprised why Cameni doesn't use NASA's color textures (Blue Marble Next Generation) to texture upper LODs of the planet. From high altitude and space it looks strange.

Oh come on! Are you going to leave anything for other developers to do?? Procedural Galaxies, Earth and solar system in max. detail.. This is going to destroy the space game industry . But I don't mind at all . Keep walking...
