I never thought someone's scientific literacy level could be less than zero, but there it is.

Well, for what I saw just right there and then, people are acting like angry apes that heard something that may potentially endanger them.

Off topic and well within the rules of the forum, it is just a joke there is no need to take it so seriously

This is not a joke and I'm taking it very seriously.

Peoples inability to understand the diversity of worldviews and ways of development of different nations or societies leads to this disappointing situation that every argument that opposes "modern" view of life falls down to "simply wrong" category. It seems like you did not even listen to the arguments, did not seek the meaning of them, you just took the side popular opinions, and started to shame people.

This is a behaviour that is completely opposed to scientific methodology in favour of bureaucratic and political priorities. Instead of pointing out some of the flaws that these viewpoints may bring, you dismiss them entirely.

That is what I refer to by asking about "gravity". It is a sad to observe that ideals have degraded so much since the dawn of atomic and space age. I may even say exact the same words - science must fail from time to time, because it is the way it does exist.

I thought the takeaway was that those people had not received a good education in science and did not understand the scientific methodology or science history (the part about Newton and gravity was particularly egregious, and I think the pic Doc posted is an apt representation of how ridiculous it was). They want to hold on to a set of world views so firmly that they view science itself to be an attack against them. Which is really unfortunate. And I think it speaks both to their steadfastness to belief as well as a failure of scientific communication to effectively reach them.

The person who said "it's not true" could have chosen a less inflammatory response. He could have instead asked open questions about the reliable documentation for such phenomena, or explained how, as scientists, we critically examine such things to gain confidence about them and understand how they work (or not).

Instead, the flat response of denying its existence resulted in anger. Which is bad on their part. They could have instead followed up with their own questions, asking him to explain how he concluded that, not demand an apology for daring to contradict their views. But I think it was very obvious in both sides' conduct that there was no plausible chance for a meaningful conversation to occur.

Seems to be more what you are doing since my post did no such thing.

I disagree, it is a joke. Life itself is a joke in a twisted sense too, you exist and then you don't best not to get all heated up over trivial things like this.

Watsisname, I was going through this thread as usual when my Bullshit Early Warning System triggered.
I am practically appalled by amount of sarcasm, hate, racism, narcissism expressed by the people who react to this.
There is just this video and several statements in it, and without even slight insight, people just start to curse them like a bunch of old hags.
Call them stupid, ineffective, tribesmen, bitches, lefties, retarded, SFW, snowflake etc, etc, etc.

One hundred fucking years of social progress practically gone in vain.

I would like to warn you for the last time - do not try to escalate this to any sort of blame game.
Just don't.
You are killing the last hope in your decency.

You know what is a joke? These are supposed to be the people whom modern science in all it's might had to bring up to the level of civilized countries, but this is what they get instead after all these efforts.

I'm not even gonna bother with a warning for breaking the rules, as you know them full well

I don't know, you seem to be the one escalating things and drawing conclusions that just aren't there.

They seem to be doing pretty well. She has a tablet, they have electricity, South Africa has modern hospitals. Seems to me they have benefited quite a bit from science.

All right since you can't take a discussion we have to leave it at that.

They seem to be doing too well, it seems, at least for your consideration. People do hate them for that, like it is something that have been stolen from them.

Civil discussions sure, but you've gone full SJW with personal attacks. It seems in this regard the fault is with you, your world view, and your opinion on the subject.

To reiterate my point, settle down buddy it's a joke

I think this university needs to teach the history and methodology of science and philosophy before moving on to anything else. The first year should be nothing else. Not that it should matter, but the students might also be happy to learn that geometry and ultimately important roots of mathematics began in Africa (besides modern day Iraq), long before the Hellenification of Egypt.

Looks like some dinosaur brain tissue was discovered.

It seems to resemble that of crocodiles and birds.
