You can not open a '.pak' file with notepad.
You can open it with an archive program such as 7-Zip.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip
http://www.7-zip.org/

Or, if you change the extension '.pak' to '.zip', as I said, you can open it directly in Windows File Explorer. With a double click!

JackDole, Thank you so much for your help!

I actually ended up opening notepad and editing things in there, then I went into "File" then "Save As..." and saved it to my planets subfolder after making it so that it was a SC file rather than a text document. What I was doing before was going into the planets folder, right clicking anywhere, and just making a text document that I named "MySystem.sc."

My new planet:

TheSpaceLeviathan,
actually, I do not quite understand it, it should have worked with the first method. I sometimes do it myself this way.
But main thing, it works now!

If known file extensions aren't set to be visible, naming a text document "MySystem.sc" will result in "MySystem.sc.txt", so it can't be read by SpaceEngine. By default, Save As in Notepad is also set to .txt, which will result in the same problem. This can be solved by setting the file extension in the Save As dialog to "all files".

You can also make all extensions visible, then rename it in Windows Explorer to change .txt to .sc. Google it to find the right options, as it depends on the OS version, and I can't show pictures right now.

How do you do this for stars? I tried copying Sol's code but for some reason instead of having a K type star, I end up with a O0 0 type hypergiant...Here's what I have:

Code

Star    "Kizo Duosu/Sol 2"
{
    ParentBody "Kizo Duosu System Bary"

    Class       K0 V
    Luminosity  0.303
    Temperature 4693
    Age         6.224
    FeH         0.0

    MassSol     0.81
    RadSol      0.752

Living among the stars, I find my way. I grow in strength through knowledge of the space I occupy, until I become the ruler of my own interstellar empire of sorts. Though The world was made for the day, I was made for the night, and thus, the universe itself is within my destiny.

Alek,
The star class must be in quotation marks! And there must be a closing brace at the end of the script.

Try this:
Code

Star    "Kizo Duosu/Sol 2"
{
    ParentBody "Kizo Duosu System Bary"

    Class       "K0 V"
    Luminosity  0.303
    Temperature 4693
    Age         6.224
    FeH         0.0

    MassSol     0.81
    RadSol      0.752
}

Okay..Thank you, it works now. Sorry to bother because of a trivial mistake (As it is, now that I know the problem) but this is my first time doing this, so thanks for helping.

Does anyone know what the closest G-type RS star to Sol is? Space Engine freezes when I try searching up to 1000 light years.

Edit: Any G-type.

If you mean with the exact spectral class there's RS 8474-475-6-243227-57

Mosfet, Thanks, I do mean any G-type star though biggrin

Edit: I think we might have misunderstood each other, I meant distance-wise.

RS 8474-1353-7-1480278-456 is 296.78 ly. It is almost certainly the closest.
