They don't look so good from the ground still and there is no solution to multi-colored lights but I think overall this is an interesting way to pull off cities.
I think I will be adding these to my Star Trek planets.

Yeah, with some shader tweaking, or with a "tin planet" color palette, this might also be a good way to build a procedural Death Star. Or at least something close to it.

Best to avoid editing shaders unless forced to do so. I have figured out some interesting tweaks in catalog settings that allows for city density and other interesting effects.
